Pride

Today was the Gay Pride Parade and my wife and I went to support our friends. To be honest, I hate parades so I took my sketchbook with to draw people who were watching the parade. It was actually kind of cold today which is unusual. The past couple weeks have been muggy and hot, but I think the rain we had on Saturday cooled everything down. Or maybe a cold front from the north or something...anyway, here are some drawings I did.

Spy House

I seem to like drawing at this coffee shop near the college I graduated from. The place is called Spy House and it has a nice atmosphere, great music and interesting characters that show up since it's in the city. Anyway, here are some sketches from a recent visit.

Sunday Sketching

When I draw this way, I always think about what my teachers would be saying to me if they saw this. I know my drawing teachers would be upset for lack of structure and composition, but my illustration teachers might like it due to the imperfections and the way the mistakes in the line work can give character to the people I am drawing. Sometimes I totally screw up and get the proportions way off, but sometimes it looks believable and it starts to work for me. I need to work on distorting reality more because I am always struggling to make things look real, but that's a fight I can't win...nor would want to anymore. Drawing imperfections and exaggerations is more fun...now I just need to get better at it.

Wolverine look-a-like?

I was at work on my lunch break and started sketching this dude. It started from a tiny sketch I had some where and I think I was interested in creating a very angular body with that kind of pose. Not sure what interested me about it at the time, but here is what came of it.

Shoes

Went to a coffee shop the other day and was listening to some strange conversations. I wanted to draw these people more in depth, but they were literally right in front of me and I would have gotten caught. I had my hat on so I could hide just a bit, but was only able to draw this guys shoes. The text says "He's been living in a fireplace or something, nobody knows who he is." I have no idea what that means.

Hair

Started out from drawing a random lines and expanded into this profile with crazy hair.

old guy

My new scanner has just arrived so now I will be actually posting some drawings. I started doing a different type of sketching lately and have been liking the results that have been coming out. It comes out a bit looser...for the most part.

Daily Sketching coming soon

I haven't been updating this at all and I need to remedy that so I will be posting my daily sketches every night. It will start when I get my new scanner, which is part of the reason for the lack of updates. The scanner I have now I have to jump though hoops to get things scanned. My new one should be nice and sweet. All I have been doing lately is posting photos taken from my phone and that quality isn't so good.

Zombies

I haven't been drawing much lately which is bad, but recently at my work, a co-worker of mine wanted me to draw him some zombies. He is a huge zombie freak so I did these on my lunch break :P. They were fun to draw and they turned out okay. Proportionately kind of weird, but hey they're zombies.
